LITERATURE and SPELLING: March 28-April 1
Happy Sunday afternoon! I'm so proud of you for the care you took to get your testing done last week. I know that each of you will be glad when you see your scores to find out how much progress you have made since last spring. And I LOVED watching you fly kites! Skylar and I got some good pictures, so I'll let Ms. Amy post them on the school website and Facebook.

Important Reasons to Learn Spanish!
2. Spanish and English share many words in common - most are of Latin origin. Plus, it is easier to learn other romance languages (those derived from Latin or "roman") such as Italian, Portuguese, and French!
3. Learning a second language makes one a better student! The more conections you feed your brain, the smarter you will be! AND - it is proven that students who learn a foreign language excel in college entrance exams!
4. To learn another language opens our hearts and minds to other peoples and their cultures - "to know another's language is to begin to know his heart . . ."!
5. It is FUN!

LITERATURE: Homework and Spelling, Week of March 7-11
Hello, Students,
I am posting this early since I will be gone from Sunday through Wednesday of next week. I know you'll have a great time with Mrs. Castleberry!
Next week, you will be exploring the historical novel, Johnny Tremain. Each night you will need to read the chapter you have been assigned for homework. You will also be keeping three separate lists:
· A graphic organizer about Johnny’s character traits (Johnny’s head)
· A list of any historical fact you come across in your reading: dates, place names, events that Johnny may be involved in that you think REALLY happened, such as a meeting of the Sons of Liberty where Samuel Adams speaks, etc.
· A description written by the author that you find especially graphic and full of imagery.
For MONDAY, MARCH 7: You will be given your books on Friday with this handout and the charts mentioned above. Read Chapter 1 (it is divided into 6 very small sections, pages 1-30. Fill out the character analysis of Johnny, the Historical Facts chart, and the Imagery chart. Mrs. Castleberry will check this on Monday and you will be expected to participate in the discussion of the first chapter.
For TUESDAY, MARCH 8: HOMEWORK: Read the second Chapter of the book, pages 31-53, and continue to fill out the characterization of Johnny, Historical fact chart, and Imagery chart.
