Math September 12 - 16

We have been working on multiplication by playing games in centers. One of our centers involves practicing at www.multiplication.com. The games there are set up to help learn the multiplication tables.

In Class Lessons for the week:

Monday - Lessons 7 and 8 - Lines, Segments, Rays, and measuring length

Tuesday - Lessons 9 and 10 - Number lines, greater than, less than, evens and odds,

Sequencing and reading a scale

Wednesday - Lesson 11 - Working word problems

Thursday - Section 1 Assessment

Friday - Friday Fun Day - Continue working on Multiplication Centers.

Homework Lessons for the week:

Monday - Receive "Drops in the Bucket" #1 - Due Wednesday

Wednesday - Receive "Drops in the Bucket" #2 - Due Friday

Any work that is not completed in class will also be homework.

LITERATURE & HISTORY: September 12-16

What about those Cowboys? I know all of you are probably watching the game, but don't forget to practice for your spelling and map test tomorrow--you need to know how to spell and locate the 6 states of the New England Region, and the 5 states of the Mid-Atlantic Region.

This next week, we will finish our reading of King of the Wind and our discussion of MR. LIP. You will continue to read a few chapters every night, finishing the book on Thursday evening. Your test over the book and over the 5 Themes of Geography will be Tuesday, September 20. Monday, September 19 will be a big day--your Island Projects will be due and you will present them. You will also have another states spelling test that day. So please keep up with your work. Every day, do a little so that at the end (next Sunday night) you won't have to scramble!

READING HOMEWORK:

For Monday (tomorrow), September 12--Spelling Test over 13 words (see last week's blog post) Read Chapters 13-15 in King of the Wind; fill out your handout on LOCATION--it requires that you go to Google street maps, remember?; and be ready to write a short summary in class tomorrow of these three chapters.

Tuesday--don't forget your permission slips to go to Mr. Malsbary's stables to see an Arabian and some Thoroughbreds! Bring your cameras!

For Wednesday, September 14--Read Chapters 16-18, fill out handout on INTERACTION, and be ready to write a short summary of these three chapters in class on Wednesday.

For Thursday, September 15--Reach Chapters 19-21, fill out handout on 2 THEMES of the story, and be ready to write a short summary of these three chapters in class on Thursday.

For Friday, September 16--Read Chapter 22 and the Epilogue, fill out handout on two more THEMES of the story, and be ready to write a short summary of these two chapters in class on Friday.

September 12-16: Latin II

Tuesday: You'll get your chapter 2 packets today. Make sure you use them to study the vocabulary words and chant on the first page (our next quiz will be next Tuesday). We'll continue learning about the person, number, and tense of verbs, as well as discuss English derivatives of some of chapter 2's vocabulary.

Thursday: Today we will practice translating verbs in a variety of persons and numbers. We will also drill chapter 2 vocabulary together. You will begin working on your chapter 2 worksheet, which is due next Tuesday.

September 12-16: Bible and Science

Bible

Monday: We will begin studying the birth of John the Baptist in Luke 1:57-80, complete and check the Birth of John the Baptist worksheet, and begin working on this week's memory verse, Luke 1:68-70

Wednesday: Be prepared to discuss Luke 1:57-80 together in class. We will also make clay tablets similar to the one Zechariah made announcing John's name.

Friday: Bible test day! The test will include writing Luke 1:68-70 from memory.

Science

Monday: We will learn about the oxygen cycle and oxygen's place in the Earth's atmosphere through readings and a short video. You will also be turning in your sketches of the Earth and atmosphere's layers that you completed last week.

Friday: We will do an experiment that extracts the colors found in leaves due to photosynthesis.

September 6-9: Latin II

We are off to a great start in Latin II! On Thursday we will take our first quiz over the chapter 1 packet. Everything you need to know we have discussed in class and can be found in the packet. Expect vocabulary words, the amo chant, and some simple grammar questions. Study the memory work on pg. 1 and re-read the grammar pages.

Don't forget to complete the chapter 1 worksheet for Thursday.

September 6-9: Bible

In Bible this week we will be learning about Gabriel's visit to Mary in Luke 1:26-56. There will be no memory verse this week because of our 4-day week. Instead of a test on Friday, you will complete an open-book worksheet.

Happy Labor Day, Students!

This, week, our reading of King of the Wind and our study of the Five Themes of Geography continue to

intertwine.

Your reading assignments are below, and you will continue to be "tested" over your reading as you write summaries of your chapters each day in class.

Your spelling words this week are the names of the United States

from the two Regions of the New-England and Mid-Atlantic States. There are 11 states and 2 regions. You will need to be able to spell them correctly AND label them on a blank map of the USA. Your test will be Monday, September 12.

I hope to be able to take you to the Public Library on Thursday where you will be taught about the online catalog, the Library of Congress numbering system, and the different sections of the library. You will have a book to find using that numbering system--the book will be about the Island you are going to inherit! I will be sending home a permission slip for you to walk to the Library this Thursday, so don't forget to fill it out and bring it back!

Here are your assignments and spelling words:

You should be reading Chapters 4-6 this weekend, and filling out your superstition chart and your 5 Themes of Geography chart for King of the Wind. Be prepared to write a summary of these chapters in class Tuesday morning.

Read Chapters 7-9 (pp. 49-67) for WEDNESDAY. Fill out chart about MIGRATION that you will receive in class on Tuesday. Be ready to write a summary of these chapters in class Wednesday morning.

Read Chapters 10-12 (pp. 68-87) for FRIDAY. Fill out chart about PLACE that you will receive in class on Wednesday. Be prepared to write a summary of these chapters in class Friday morning.

Read Chapters 13-15 (pp. 88-110) for MONDAY, September 12. Fill out chart about LOCATION that you will receive in class on Friday. Be prepared to write a summary of these chapters in class Monday morning.
