This week is the last week of the first grading period this year. We will be finishing our study of The Secret Garden by reading the last few chapters, and with some fun activities, including our Tea Party.
You have accomplished so much this first nine weeks: you have read two novels, and applied the 5 Themes of Geography to one and the 9 Activities of Culture to the other. This has given you a great foundation on which to begin the study of American History. You will continue to research the Native American tribes of your region. Your PowerPoint on this research is DUE on Wednesday, October 26 if all goes as planned.
You will not have any spelling words this week—but just think. . .you have learned to spell and locate all 50 states in the US; both countries that share the continent of North America; all the continents and oceans in the world; the main rivers and mountain range of the US; and all of the regions of the US. This information will stay with you forever—who knows. . . someday, you may win Jeopardy with all that you have learned!

MONDAY, October 17: Book Reports and presentations due. Come to class having read Chapters 24 and 25 in The Secret Garden. HOMEWORK: Read Chapter 26, pp. 323-336, for Tuesday.
TUESDAY, October 18: We will discuss Chapter 26 in The Secret Garden. You will be given class time to begin reading your assignment for tomorrow. HOMEWORK: Read Chapter 27, pp. 337-358—the end of the novel, for Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY, October 19: We will discuss the end of the novel. SECRET ASSIGNMENT!
THURSDAY, October 20: English Tea Party and film
