Math Class October 3-7

Last week we tried a rotating system where all 5th grade students were either in a guided math group, individual book work group, center activity group, or a problem solving enrichment group. It worked out well, so we are going to try it again this week. I think our favorite activity for last week was playing "Baby Snake" which is a game of mentally adding and taking risks. Ask your child how to play and play a game at home.

This week our lessons will include:

Problem Solving Strategies: Draw a diagram or make a table, and working backwards to find the answer.

Lessons: Number line with negative numbers and problems with equal groups.

Multiplication Facts: We will concentrate on 3's. I know that most 5th graders are experts with their times table but it never hurts to become quicker.
