LITERATURE: Homework and Spelling, Week of February 28-March 4

Hi, young'uns,

Sorry to be getting this posted so late on Sunday night. ( No, I'm not watching the Academy Awards, but I did get involved in the Lady Bears basketball game this afternoon, and that put me behind.) They won. . . by only 1 point!

Tomorrow, we will finish discussing Amos Fortune. Our next novel is a classic, Johnny Tremain, which we will begin on Friday. In between, we're going to read some chapters in the new volume of our history book, From Colonies to Country and do some work with grammar! I think I can hear you all cheering all the way out here in Belton!

Below are your assignments for the week, and your spelling words for the test on Friday, March 4. This 9 weeks ends in two weeks, just before Spring Break, so be sure and get all your work caught up and your reading logs turned in. You can count the reading you do at school for your 30 minutes--just be sure and write it down and turn it in!

MONDAY: Be ready to discuss the last two chapters of Amos Fortune. HOMEWORK: Read the poem at the beginning of Volume 3 of A History of US. and analyze the poem based on the questions on a handout that will be given to you. Then, go to page 8 of the book, and analyze the three quotes by Thomas Jefferson on that same handout

TUESDAY: HOMEWORK: Read the Preface to the History book 3: From Colonies to Country for discussion in class on Wednesday.

WEDNESDAY: HOMEWORK: You will each be assigned chapters about the French and Indian War to be read from your history text to explain in class on Thursday. You will fill out a chart to keep track of main points as you read. Chapter 3, Frenchmen and Indians; Chapter 4, A Most Remarkable Man (2 readers); Chapter 5, Pitt Steps In; Chapter 6, Au Revoir France. (Reporting on these books will take place during History class)

THURSDAY: HOMEWORK: read the handouts called, Meet Esther Forbes and Introducing the Novel for discussion in class tomorrow.

FRIDAY: Spelling Test. You will be given their new novel, Johnny Tremain, with reading assignments and chapter handouts for the story. HOMEWORK: I will post this homework in a new blog post once the books have arrived.
